Kindergarten Readiness and Adjustment Group

This group is designed to help children who may have difficulty with the big step into Kindergarten. Focus is on the following kindergarten readiness skills:

  • Handling transitions
  • Working co-operatively in a structured group
  • Following directions
  • Handling consequences
  • Listening skills
  • Eye contact
  • Sharing and turn taking
  • Observing body space boundaries
  • Stress management

In these groups, the child will

  • share and give feedback regarding feelings, thoughts, and behavior;
  • learn effective and ineffective ways of relating;
  • learn how they are perceived by others;
  • learn how they are similar and different from each other;
  • learn the importance of cooperation;
  • celebrate their uniqueness, originality, and creativity.

Schedule

This program runs for six weeks and meets once a week in the evening. Parents meet concurrently in a separate group with a therapist to discuss parenting issues and concerns.
